The car culture rites of spring returned to southern California and LCOC members were part of the fun at two big early April events.
On Saturday and Sunday April 9 and 10 LCOC members’ vintage cars displayed at the Lincoln Experience Center helped celebrate Lincoln’s centennial as part of Ford Motor Company. On Sunday 400 of SoCal’s finest hot rods, customs and classics took over the streets in Old Orange at the Orange Plaza Car Show.
Elayne Bendel’s 1964 Continental convertible, fresh from a long hiatus from public view, made it to both places.
The Experience Center reached out to us for vintage Lincolns to participate in their special centennial test drive weekend celebration. On Saturday Elayne’s Continental joined with Stephen Fredrick’s 1975 Mark IV and on Sunday Stephen’s Mark IV paired with Bazil Laroche’s and Russell Harmon’s 1967 Lincoln sedan. Visitors were wowed by all three vehicles and many stopped to chat with the owners before and after entering the center.
A Mark IV was a featured cast member on the Cannon detective series of the 1970’s and Stephen’s vehicle sports an authentic vintage Motorola car phone similar to the one used on the TV show. Elayne’s convertible features a rare original Buckskin color and Bazil and Russell’s sedan represents a much loved unrestored Lincoln. All three will be part of the LCOC Western National Meet May 4-8 in Palm Springs.
Orange’s famed central traffic circle and nearby side streets hosted Sunday’s big eclectic Orange Plaza event and LCOC’s Ron Doyle’s custom 1962 Lincoln convertible was there along with other custom Lincolns from the Suicide Kings Car Club plus Elayne’s convertible. Ron’s 1962 Lincoln is also set for the May 4-8 Palm Springs meet. See below for Orange Plaza photos and a flavor of the event.
