Decades of American classic luxury cars were represented at the first annual Big 3 Car Show and Barbecue held September 22 at Laguna Niquel Park. The sold-out event with cars from the ’50s. through ’90s was hosted by the Southern California Imperial Owners, Inc. and co-sponsored by the Lincoln and Continental Owners Club and the So Cal Cadillac and LaSalle Club. Beautiful examples of all three brands were proudly displayed during a morning social followed by a traditional BBQ featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, chili, all the fixings, cookies and soft drinks. A pair of rare nearly identical 1979 Cadillac Sevilles wowed attendees. Perfect weather drew a wide variety of convertibles that gleamed in the early fall sunshine with their tops down. Attendees came from all over Southern California from as close as neighboring Mission Viejo, Lake Forest, and Costa Mesa to as far away as Palm Springs, Yucca Valley and Fallbrook. Bob Blevins again took the long distance driving honors, motoring in with his Lincoln all the way from Yuma, Arizona.
Attendance was limited only by the size of the shelter used for the dining portion of the event. Next year the Imperial Owners will again host, but a larger shelter will be booked that will enable Packard owners to participate along with the other makes.
