Yorba Regional Park in Anaheim was thrown back into a 1960s time warp on a sizzling Saturday morning when more than 30 slab side Lincoln sedans and convertibles converged on the park for the annual Slabfest meetup event. The Suicide Slabs and Rattys organized a stellar day of car talk, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Visitors came from as far away as Texas, where the annual Slabfest is also a popular event. A chartered taco bar added to the fun.
LCOC’s own Jim Ayres and Elayne Bendel trundled in with their ’64 convertibles and were able to welcome new LCOC members Mario and Patricia Hernandez, owners of the Lincoln Boys Yucca Valley-based business that supplies used parts to Lincoln owners nationwide.
Stock versions and customs parked side-by-side for all participants and their families to enjoy. Every vehicle had its own unique story as owners shared tales of how they came to own and keep one of America’s most iconic body styles. Slabfest was open to all 1961 to 1969 Lincolns—excluding Marks—featuring the famed flat sides and center-opening “suicide” doors made popular in the Kennedy and Johnson White House years. One current-era Continental also made the scene.
Though shade was hard to come by the good times weren’t. If you own a slab side plan to attend next year’s event. One can only imagine what surprises and fun the next Slabfest will bring.
