Cadillac and Lincoln Car Buffs Kick Off 2022 in Style at Lakewood Show and Luncheon

Gorgeous collector cars and brilliant sunshine blessed attendees at the joint LCOC and Cadillac and LaSalle Club’s 2022 Kickoff Luncheon Sunday at the Lakewood Country Club. A sister Lincoln group known as the Rattys for their less formal adherence to stock configurations but devotion to Lincolns of the 1960s were also on hand for the fun. About 80 car buffs in all were part of the show.

After dodging raindrops at the last two iterations of this event in 2019 and 2020 this year’s attendees were rewarded with perfect weather and some exceptional cars.

Dave Woody’s 1940 Zephyr 3-window coupe was the oldest Lincoln there while a sporty 1929 Cadillac roadster was the elder statesman of the Cadillac contingent.

A curious ad hoc display also took shape on the street as onlookers with other old classics who weren’t part of the formal proceedings also stopped by to admire the cars.

Display vehicles began arriving before 8 a.m. The Rattys made a grand group entrance, as a parade of ’60s Lincolns arrived all at once to the delight of everyone except the field marshal. The show field grew steadily until by 10 a.m. virtually all the cars were in place in a circular arraignment on the country club’s well manicured front lawn.

A 1940 Cadillac limo evoked thoughts of George Raft and Humphrey Bogart stepping right out of the rear seat and onto our show field!

At abut 11:30 the guests adjourned from the field for a buffet luncheon that included mixed vegetables, roasted potatoes, roll and butter, chicken marsala and beef tri-tip with gravy and mushrooms all topped off with decadent chocolate cake. A kitchen snafu resulted in some guests having to wait for their lunch but in the end all were well fed.

New LCOC members Vicki and Marco Torres join LCOC Western Region Director JIm Ayres, 2nd from right, and veteran member Jim Powers, right.

Two raffles resulted in two lucky winners of $75 prizes and one, Rusty Wall, generously donated his prize back to LCOC and added $25 of his own to purchase four 2022 LCOC memberships. In all, seven new members were added to the LCOC roster at the event. We are pleased to welcome Rusty Wall, Mike Hageman, Eddie and Rebecca Luna, Ffilip and Monica Bolton, Mike Kaslowski, Marco and Vicki Torres and Will Jones into LCOC.

Both host clubs reviewed their upcoming events and LCOC Western National Meet Co-Chairs Ron Cressy and John Burge previewed the event to be held in Palm Springs May 4-8. Our sincere thanks to Betsy Davenport and her team at the Cadillac and LaSalle Club for inviting us to the show.
