Cadillacs and Lincolns Shone at Lakewood Kickoff Event

Cadillac and Lincoln owners and their families were in mid season form as the annual Lakewood Country Club Kickoff Car Show and Luncheon brought their classics together for a friendly mingle on the grass.

For the past several years LCOC has joined with the So. Cal Cadillac & LaSAlle Club to host this stellar event. This year, however, one vintage mid-century Packard also joined the group.

The always amazing mid-century pastels stood out as the light overcast skies offered ideal conditions for both photos and browsing.

The long standing threat of rain in the forecast may have scared some attendees off, but those who made it to Lakewood had a fine day of tire kicking and socializing.

After nearly three hours of car show enjoyment guests entered the country club ballroom for a Mexican themed buffet lunch followed by a presentation prepared by LCOC members Elayne Bendel, Stu Suede and Jim Ayres honoring the late designer Jim Powers, who passed away in 2023 at the age of 89.

Powers’ legendary career spanned his time at Ford Motor Company and as an independent designer and owner of his own design firm. The speakers also covered his own personal car and artifact collection as well as their recollection of him as a friend.

With numerous car club events already in the books for the participants over the first two months of the year, it was hard to think of the Lakewood show and luncheon as a kickoff, but no doubt it set the tone for many other individual LCOC and joint club activities in the future. Our thanks to Betsy Davenport and her Cadillac team for inviting LCOC members as their guests for 2024.
