LCOC Invited to Harley Earl Lecture, Lunch and Aaron Weiss Collection Tour April 18

April 18 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

LCOC members, family, friends and their cars are cordially invited to a fantastic half day of tire kicking, automotive history,  lecture, lunch and a great private collection tour on Saturday April 18.

In addition to the Rolls-Royce Club, we’ll have the Classic Car Club of America (CCCA), the Cadillac & LaSalle Club, the Earle C. Anthony Packard Club, and the Lincoln & Continental Owners Club so the parking lot will be a feast for car enthusiasts.  Drive your favorite vintage car if you can.

WHEN:  April 18, 9:30 AM

WHERE:  Flying A Garage, 150 N. San Gabriel Blvd., Pasadena

COST:   $20 including lunch

DEADLINE:  Register by April 14 and and use your Zelle account to pay for lunch.  Use email  epbendel@sbcglobal.net to register for the event and to send Zelle payment.  In the Zelle Memo field put Earl Lecture, your name and choice for lunch—beef, turkey or vegetarian.

We’ll gather at 9:30 AM for tire kicking, coffee, and donuts.  At 10:00 we’ll sit down for the lecture by noted Cadillac historian and restorer Richard Stanley featuring automotive pioneer Harley Earl, GM’s first and most famous car designer. There will be plenty of slides to illustrate Harley Earl’s life, his designs, and influence on the auto industry around the globe.

The location will be Aaron Weiss’ Flying A Garage in Pasadena.  Aaron’s car collection, which numbers around 50 high end cars, includes famous makes like Rolls-Royce, Duesenberg, Mercedes, Packard, Pierce Arrow, ‘50s and ‘60s American cars, and more.  This by itself is worth a visit.

As an added treat, Richard will give us a preview of the 1938 Cadillac 60 Special convertible sedan he is just finishing.  Only 2 were built by GM Styling in 1938 as concept cars.  Both were destroyed but Richard researched and commissioned an exact replica, a project that took nearly 30 years to complete.  It will first be shown at the San Marino Concours June 14.

About noon we’ll have an assortment of sub sandwiches, side dishes, soft drinks, and cookies following the lecture.  After lunch, we’ll take some time to see Aaron’s car collection.  It’s going to be quite an event so be sure sign up so you won’t miss it.  Please also indicate your preference for lunch—beef, turkey, or vegetarian.
