Large Turnout and Perfect Weather Highlight HB Concours

From poodles to Panteras the Huntington Beach Concours for classics and collectibles on June 3 had something for everyone. Early morning sunshine and a light breeze attracted a large number of spectators. A wide variety of cars, motorcycles and special interest vehicles were on hand at  Huntington Beach Central Park where the 33rd annual renewal of the popular summer event was held. Two early 1970s Panteras were displayed next to the Lincolns, much as they were when new and sold in Lincoln dealerships.

A gorgeous standard poodle appropriately named Sporty pranced among the entries to the delight of everyone. In a growing trend, special interest vehicles such an Army truck with trailer, a VW bus camper and a Sportliner bus proved popular.

LCOC members’ cars ranged from Bob Barger’s 1956 Mark II to Alan Cressy’s special 1987 Stars & Stripes Sail America Lincoln, one of only about 2,000 made to honor the U.S. victory in the famed America’s Cup yacht race. Bob received the top honors from the Thunderbird Club who voted his Mark II their favorite among all the Lincolns and Marks in the show.

Jim Ayres and Elayne Bendel both displayed their 1964 Continental convertibles and attendees were very pleased to welcome long-time LCOC member Bruce Hutchinson and his beautiful blue Mark VII to the event.

Two stellar Mark IIIs and a Mark IV were part of the LCOC contingent and both Bob Blevins and Ron Cressy entered their Mark VIIs into the show.

Hungry visitors consumed nearly 3 dozen donuts and four containers of Starbucks coffee throughout the day.

The long day ended with dissemination of awards in many classes.  First place winners received an engraved plaque and a 5 gallon bucket of Mother’s car maintenance products.  Second and third place winners each received an engraved plaque. The Lincoln winners are listed below:
