The 11th annual Casual Concours car show sponsored by the Great Autos of Yesteryear car club held at the Desert Princess Resort, Cathedral City, CA on Oct 19 previewed our 2021 LCOC Western National Meet to be held May 5-9 at the same site. And what a show it was! Thunderbirds and Avantis were the featured marques, but all makes of classic vehicles were eligible and many LCOC members participated among the nearly 150 owners showing cars on the golf course grass.
The show weekend began Friday evening with a reception sponsored by Porsche, Palm Springs, where many of the show vehicles were on view. A hosted bar with delicious hors d’oeuvres were offered in the glittering Porsche 2-story showroom. On Saturday everything from a tiny Isetta to a 1950s-era milk truck to luxury American sedans and convertibles took center stage. Some 65 awards were presented at a gala banquet Saturday evening after a sumptuous buffet featuring a huge steamship roast beef, among many yummy offerings.
The LCOC Western Region rented a condo facing the show field, where the annual meeting was held to provide a perfect location to preview the site of our upcoming 2021 Lincoln event. All available Board of Managers were on hand along with several attendees from the general membership. Results of elections held in September were certified with Jim Ayres, Stacy Roscoe and Ron Cressy being re-elected to new 3-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2020.
Halsey Posadas was welcomed as a new board member to fill the remaining year of retiring member Jim HIggs’ term and Bazil LaRoche was introduced as the region’s new social media focal. Assistant Director Jeremy Sanford has returned to northern California after a work assignment out of state and pledged to reinstate some LCOC activities in that part of the region.
Treasurer Jan McNiel reported a balance of $8,411.95 after providing a sizable deposit to reserve facilities for the 2021 meet. HQ Hotel for the event will be the Doubletree Hotel, adjacent to the Desert Princess.
Membership chairman Bob Blevins said renewal notices for 2020 will be sent by email for the majority of members along with a summary of 2019 activities. Members can renew both their LCOC national and regional memberships online at https://lcocwestern.org/membership/.
