LCOC Western Region members enjoyed a great 2019 filled with car shows, tours, social events and fun. Your Board of Managers planned and executed more than two dozen activities involving LCOC alone or in combination with other car clubs from around the region. Our Website at https://lcocwestern.org continued as our primary means of communicating with members. You can go there 24/7 for news of our region, the calendar of events and accounts of past activities, other features, as well as to renew your national and regional memberships at https://lcocwestern.org/membership/
If you were not able to participate this year, here is just a sample of what you missed starting with the Imperial Club Barbecue and National LCOC Board Meeting in January and continuing all the way through the L.A. Auto Show and Collector Car Vault tour in December.
2019 Highlights: There was something for everyone in 2019. It started in Palm Springs in January with the annual Imperial Club barbecue and in February with the LCOC Western Region Kickoff Brunch held jointly this year with the Cadillac and La Salle Club. In March we exhibited at the Classic Air Show, toured the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills with the Thunderbirds of Southern California and visited the Lincoln Experience Center to see the new “Coach Door” Continental.
April’s highlights included the La Jolla Concours, Fabulous Fords Forever at Angel Stadium, the car show and home/garden tour in beautiful Floral Park, CA and a tour of the fabulous Kip Cyprus Car Collection.
In May we showed our cars and supported local charities while touring some special mid-century homes in Altadena, CA, and welcomed the Muckenthaler 25th Anniversary Motor Car Festival.
The Huntington Beach Concours and San Marino Concours kicked off summer car show season in June, and in July the LCOC Western National Meet in Grand Junction, CO featured great scenery, vintage Lincolns and good food, while the California State Fair in Sacramental held its annual Lincoln Day.
Lincoln Motor Car Foundation held the annual Lincoln Homecoming event in August; in the region we had a meet-up with other ‘60s Lincolns at Slabfest 2019 and some of us took our vehicles on a Poker Run Car Rally sponsored by the Corvette Club.
In September we attended the LCOC Eastern National Meet in Duchess County, N.Y. and visited Hyde Park’s great estates and the Culinary Institute of America in addition to the featured car events. In the LCOC Western Region we held our 2nd annual Big 4 American Luxury Car Meet and Potluck luncheon and were honored as the featured marque at Pageant of the Thunderbird.
LCOC’s Western Region Annual Meeting and the Casual Concours Car Show in October previewed our 2021 Western National Meet to be held at the same site and a separate car show and aircraft event in nearby Palm Springs were other October features.
In November we helped the city of Santa Ana celebrate its 150th Anniversary with a car show at the Bowers Museum and we joined with the San Diego Cadillac and La Salle Club at a car show and “Godfather Dinner” in Fashion Valley Mall.
The L.A. Auto Show Nov 22-Dec 1 as well as a Dec 15 tour of the Collector Car Vault in Santa Paula with the Packard Club and some holiday parties rounded out the year. Whew, what a whirlwind!
2020 Activities: Next year promises to be even more fun. We’ll begin with the Jan 25 Imperial Club BBQ and then hold our annual LCOC Kickoff Brunch and Car Show on February 9 returning to the Lakewood Country Club in conjunction with the Cadillac and La Salle Club. Check our Western Region Calendar of Events on the Website for up to date information on all our upcoming activities.
For the Future: Throughout the coming year we will prepare to host the LCOC Western National Meet in May 2021 at the Desert Princess Resort in Cathedral City, CA. Now is the time for you to plan that special vacation, anniversary trip or birthday celebration visit to beautiful southern California for the 2021 meet.
After a long, cold and rainy winter you will want to experience the warm sunny days and pleasant evenings, and the best of what the Palm Springs area has to offer. You’ll see some of the premier collectible Lincolns and Continentals in the country as we jointly celebrate 100 years of Lincoln luxury May 5-9, 2021, enjoy the “Rat Pack” mid-20th century lifestyle made famous by Frank Sinatra and his pals, sample some great restaurants and private car collections and experience wonderful social events.
So whether you were with us or missed the fun in 2019, we want you and your car(s) soon at some LCOC events. Be there!
